GB/T 36508-2018 covers the inflatable life jackets carried on aircraft.

It divides them into four categories - adult, adult/child, child and infant - according to the weight of the wearer, and sets performance requirements that include protection against donning errors, air tightness, inflation, operating temperature range, airbag strength, buoyancy, floating posture, wearing and the survivor locator light, together with requirements on materials.

The test methods cover non-metallic materials, molded non-metallic parts and metal parts as well as each performance item, and normative annexes describe accelerated ageing in an oven, the peel strength of joints and the physical characteristics of the infant dummy.

It also gives the inspection rules for qualification and quality conformance tests and the rules on marking, labels, accompanying documents, packaging, transport and storage. It was issued on 13 July 2018 and has applied since 1 February 2019.
