Scope
GB/T 33703-2017 is the English-translated version of 自动气象站观测规范.
GB/T 33703-2017 sets the basic requirements and the observation methods for the observations made by an automatic weather station.
The basic requirements cover which elements a station may observe - air pressure, temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed, precipitation, ground temperature, visibility, snow depth, evaporation, sunshine and radiation - and the timekeeping, with Beijing time used generally and local time for radiation and sunshine.
Further clauses deal with the observation method itself, the data files, data storage and data transmission, with a normative annex on the algorithms and an informative annex on file formats and terminal commands.
Clause 3 defines meteorological element, automatic weather station and metadata. It cites GB 31221-2014, QX 4-2015, QX/T 45-2007 and QX/T 118-2010. Issued on 12 May 2017, it has applied since 1 December 2017.

3 Terms and definitions
QX/T 45-2007 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document. For ease of use, the following is repeated Some terms and definitions in QX/T 45-2007.
3.1 Meteorological elements
Characterize the basic physical quantities of the atmosphere and the basic weather phenomena. [QX/T 45-2007, definition 3.1]
3.2 Automatic weather station
Can automatically carry out ground meteorological elements of observation, processing, storage and transmission of the instrument.
3.3 Metadata
Is "data about data". That is, data about data content, quality, conditions and other characteristics of the data, its basic function is to describe the data. [QX/T 45-2007, definition 3.22]
4 Basic requirements
4.1 Observations
Depending on the purpose of the station, one or more of the following observations may be made.
Air pressure, temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed, precipitation, ground temperature, visibility, snow depth, evaporation, sunshine, radiation and other meteorological elements.
4.2 Hours and Day
4.2.1 Timing system
Observations are generally used in Beijing when radiation and sunshine observations are used locally.
