Scope

GB/T 32520-2024 (Metal-oxide surge arresters with external series gap (EGLA) for overhead transmission and distribution lines of a. c. systems above 1 kV) is available as an English-translated PDF.

GB/T 32520-2024 — This document applies to metal oxide surge arresters with external series gaps for AC 1kV and above overhead transmission and distribution lines (hereinafter referred to as External series gap line arrester (EGLA) protects only the line insulation (including insulators and air gap) from lightning-induced flashover or breakdown.

Since the metal oxide resistor of EGLA is connected to the line through an external series gap, the following issues will not be covered in this document consider. --- Operation impulse discharge voltage; --- Steep wave and operation impact residual pressure; ---Thermal stability; ---Long continuous current impulse tolerance; ---Power frequency voltage withstand time characteristics of lightning arrester; --- Disconnector test; ---Aging caused by power frequency voltage.

For some performance requirements of metal oxide arresters with external series gaps that are designed with an integrated design of the arrester body and the gap and cannot be disassembled, the test method is not considered in this document, so this document is not applicable to this type of arrester.

It is requested to refer to some contents of this document for implementation, but additional consideration should be given to the contents of this document that are not evaluated for the performance of this type of lightning arrester.

A list of these technical differences and their reasons is given in Appendix B.

The following editorial changes were made to this document.

--- To be consistent with my country's technical standard system, the standard name is changed to "External Band for Overhead Transmission and Distribution Lines above 1 kV AC" Series Gap Metal Oxide Arrester (EGLA)";

--- Added informative appendix A, appendix B, appendix G and appendix H.

1 Scope

This document applies to metal oxide surge arresters with external series gaps for AC 1kV and above overhead transmission and distribution lines (hereinafter referred to as External series gap line arrester (EGLA) protects only the line insulation (including insulators and air gap) from lightning-induced flashover or breakdown.

Since the metal oxide resistor of EGLA is connected to the line through an external series gap, the following issues will not be covered in this document consider.

--- Operation impulse discharge voltage;

--- Steep wave and operation impact residual pressure;

---Thermal stability;

---Long continuous current impulse tolerance;

---Power frequency voltage withstand time characteristics of lightning arrester;

--- Disconnector test;

---Aging caused by power frequency voltage.

For some performance requirements of metal oxide arresters with external series gaps that are designed with an integrated design of the arrester body and the gap and cannot be disassembled, the test method is not considered in this document, so this document is not applicable to this type of arrester.
