Scope

GB/T 37317-2019 is the English-translated version of 轨道交通 直流架空接触网雷电防护导则.

China's national guide to protecting DC overhead contact systems from lightning. It specifies the terms and definitions, the characterisation of lightning activity, the protection principles, the protective measures and the assessment. A DC electrified railway presents lightning with an unusually attractive target: a conductor a few metres above the ground, running for hundreds of kilometres across open country, often on embankments and viaducts that are the highest points around. A strike puts a surge of tens of kiloamperes onto the contact wire, and it travels both ways along it into the substations, the section insulators and any train that happens to be drawing current. DC systems are harder to protect than AC ones for a specific reason: there is no natural current zero, so an arc that strikes across an insulator does not extinguish itself as it would on alternating current, and a flashover becomes a sustained short circuit that has to be cleared by the protection.

Rail Guide for lightning protection of overhead overhead contact networks

1 Scope

This standard stipulates the lightning protection principle, protective measures and implementation plan for overhead contact network of urban rail transit. This standard is applicable to urban rail transit ground and elevated section overhead contact nets with DC 1500V traction power supply, using DC Ground and overhead section overhead contact nets with traction power of 750V and below can be implemented by reference.
