Scope

GB/T 30788-2025 is the English-translated version of 钢制管道外部冷缠矿脂带包覆腐蚀控制技术.

GB/T 30788-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering petrolatum tape wrapping - the surface preparation that a system tolerant of damp and rust still needs, the paste, the tape and the outer wrap, and the places it is used because nothing else can be applied over a running line. It replaces GB/T 30788-2014. It was issued on 2 December 2025 and has been in force since 1 July 2026, replacing GB/T 30788-2014. The document is under the responsibility of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. This page is published from the official record of the 2025 edition; the clause text of a standard this recent is not yet in circulation, and the figures, limits and tables it contains are those of the document itself, delivered in full with the English translation.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document supersedes GB/T 30788-2014 "Specification for External Wrapping of Anti-corrosion Cold-applied Petroleum Grease Tape for Steel Pipes" and is consistent with GB/T Compared to 30788-2014, aside from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

a) The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2014 edition);

b) The content of "Terms and Definitions" has been changed (see Chapter 3, Chapter 3 of the.2014 edition);

c) The way the "density" requirement is expressed has been changed (see Table 1, Table 1 in the.2014 edition), and the phrase "petroleum grease or paraffin content (mass content)" has been removed. The requirements and testing methods for "volume fraction" (see Table 1 of the.2014 edition) have been expanded to include "cone penetration", "non-volatile matter content", and "chemical resistance". Requirements and testing methods for "medium corrosion" (see Table 1);

d) The "size" of the petrolatum strip has been removed (see

4.3.1 in the.2014 edition);

e) The "Flame Retardant Rating" was changed to "Flaming Performance Rating" and its requirements were modified. The unit and testing method for "Tear Strength" were also changed. Test methods for "elongation at break", units and requirements for "water vapor transmission rate", and requirements for "resistance to chemical corrosion" (see Table 2,.2014) Table 2 of the.2014 edition removed the requirements and testing methods for "flash point" and "petroleum grease or paraffin content (mass fraction)" (see.2014). The.2018 edition of Table 2 added requirements and testing methods for "areal density" and "high temperature resistance" (see Table 2);

f) The requirements for "apparent density" and "resistance to chemical media corrosion" have been changed (see Table 3,.2014 edition);

g) The content of the "Design" section has been changed (see Chapter 5, Chapter 5 of the.2014 edition);

h) The content of "Construction" has been changed (see Chapter 6, Chapter 6 of the.2014 edition);

i) The content of "Inspection and Acceptance" has been changed (see Chapter 7, Chapter 7 of the.2014 edition). Please note that some content in this document may involve patents. This document specifies the materials, design, construction, inspection and acceptance, and documentation requirements for corrosion control technology involving external cold-applied petroleum grease tape coating of steel pipelines. Materials and their preservation. This document applies to the external cooling of steel pipes and irregularly shaped components (such as flanges, valves, tees, crosses, etc.) in atmospheric environments (including humid environments). The corrosion control technology of coating with mineral grease tape can be used as a reference for corrosion control of cold-applied mineral grease tape coating on the exterior of other steel structures.
