This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1.Structure and Drafting Rules for Standardization Documents"

This document is part 2 of GB/T 2659 "Codes of Names of Countries and Regions and Their Administrative Divisions in the World", GB/T 2659 has been released

This document is modified to adopt ISO 3166-2.2020 "Codes of names of countries and regions in the world and their administrative divisions Part 2.Administrative divisions

Code".

Compared with ISO 3166-2.2020, this document has made the following structural adjustments.

--Include ISO 3166-2.2020 administrative division name code information presented in database format in this document, that is, add Chapter 8

"List of names and codes of administrative divisions" (data updated as of the end of 2020).

Compared with ISO 3166-2.2020, the main technical differences of this document are as follows.

--Chapter 6 "List Composition" is changed to "Administrative Division List Information", and the content is modified according to 4.4 of ISO 3166-2.2013.

The following editorial changes have been made to this document.

--In Chapter 3, a note about the description of the term and definition number has been added.

The first edition of ISO 3166, the first edition of the international standard corresponding to GB/T 2659 "Codes of Names of Countries and Regions and Their Administrative Divisions in the World", is composed of international standards

ISO 3166 was first published in 1974, and subsequent editions were published in 1981, 1988 and.1993..1997,

ISO 3166 became a series of standards consisting of three parts.

-- ISO 3166-1.ISO 3166-1.1997, ISO 3166-1.2006, ISO 3166-1.2013, ISO 3166-1.2020;

-- ISO 3166-2.ISO 3166-2.1998, ISO 3166-2.2007, ISO 3166-2.2013, ISO 3166-2.2020;

-- ISO 3166-3.ISO 3166-3.1999, ISO 3166-3.2013, ISO 3166-3.2020.

The.2013 edition of ISO 3166 is the last paper version to contain both descriptive text and codes.

At the end of.2013, ISO 3166 was decomposed. ISO 3166 codes are formatted according to the database (in fact, the three parts of ISO 3166

combined together), available on the ISO Online Browsing Platform (ISO OBP), with descriptive text content updated on a scheduled basis.

GB/T 2659 is formulated following the principles and methods of ISO 3166, corresponding to ISO 3166, and GB/T 2659 is divided into 3 parts.

ISO 3166 is maintained by the ISO 3166 Maintenance Working Group. Chapter 7 of this document is about the specific maintenance work of ISO 3166
