Scope

GB/T 24708-2009 is the English-translated version of 湿地分类.

GB/T 24708-2009 is the national classification of wetlands. Clause 1 states that the standard specifies the wetland classification system, the classification levels and the technical criteria, and that it applies to the comprehensive survey, monitoring, management, evaluation and conservation planning of wetlands; the page records no exclusions.

Clause 2 holds six entries whose term names the draft does not print, so they can only be described: natural or artificial, permanent or intermittent marshes, peatlands and water areas holding static or flowing fresh, brackish or salt water, including the sea areas whose depth at low tide does not exceed 6 m; the process of merging from the bottom up or dividing from the top down that splits wetlands into a series of classification units differing in complexity; the sequence of types formed by that gradual merging or division; the state in which surface water is present in a wetland all year round; the system formed where river water and sea water interact, which covers the permanent estuarine waters and the delta at the river mouth and runs from the tidal limit near the mouth section, where the tidal range is zero, down to the waterfront segment; and the inland zone laid down by river alluvium that stays perennially or seasonally infiltrated with water and is counted as part of the floodplain.

Clause 3 sets out the classification system itself, and its principles of division are that it suit the actual situation of the wetlands of China and that it integrate with the wetland classification system proposed by the Wetlands International Bureau.

The grading basis in 3.2 states that wetlands are divided into three levels on the strength of their causes, their landforms, their hydrological characteristics and their vegetation types, that level 1 divides the national wetland ecosystem into natural and artificial wetlands, that natural wetlands are then divided at level 2 into 4 classes and at level 3 into 30 classes, and that the whole classification system contains 42 classes; it adds that level 1 classifies by cause and level 2 by the landscape features of natural wetlands and by major wetland functional use.

The foreword states that the standard was proposed and is managed by the State Forestry Administration and that it was drafted by the Forest Inventory and Planning Institute.

The draft on the page ends with 3.2, so the technical criteria of the individual classes are not shown. It was issued on 30 November 2009 and has applied since 1 January 2010.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the wetlands classification system, classification levels and technical standards.

This standard applies to wetlands comprehensive survey, monitoring, management, evaluation and conservation planning.

2 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this standard.

2.1

Natural or artificial, permanent or intermittent marshes, peatlands, water zone, with static or flowing, fresh or brackish water and Salt water, including when the low tide does not exceed the depth of the sea 6m.

2.2

By merging the bottom up or top-down segment, the wetland into a series of levels, there are differences in the complexity of the classification unit process.

2.3

Gradual merging or type of sequence segments formed in wetland classification process.

2.4

Wetland perennial surface water exists in a state.

2.5

Since the river and seawater interact to form the wetland system, including permanent estuarine waters and river delta at the mouth of the system.

Its scope includes tidal limit near the mouth section (tidal range is zero) to the river estuary area from the waterfront segment.

2.6

In the inland area by the river and alluvial formation it remains to be perennial or seasonal water infiltration zone (part of the floodplain category).

3 Wetland classification system

3.1 The principle of division

a) suitable for the actual situation of China's wetlands.

b) with Wetlands International Bureau proposed wetland classification system integration.

3.2 Grading basis

Considering the causes of wetland, landforms, hydrological characteristics, vegetation types are divided into three wetlands. Level 1 National Wetland Ecosystem Divided into natural wetlands and artificial wetlands into two categories. Natural wetland down in turn divided into Level 2 (Class 4), Level 3 (30 classes). Wetland phase For simple, down only the division level 2, a total of 12 categories. The entire classification system includes a total of 42 classes. Sort by levels as follows.

a) level 1, by cause classification.

b) Level 2, according to natural wetland landscape features are classified by major wetland functional use classification.
