Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This standard replaces GB/T 20238-2006 "Code for the inspection, acceptance and use of wooden floors". This standard and GB/T 20238-2006 In contrast to the editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

1 Scope

China's national code for laying a wooden floor, accepting it and living with it. It specifies the terms and definitions, the classification, the installation requirements, the completion acceptance requirements, and the requirements for use and for quality during the warranty period, and it applies to the installation, acceptance and use of wooden flooring indoors. Almost every complaint about a wooden floor is blamed on the boards and caused by something else. Wood moves with moisture, permanently and irresistibly: a floor laid on a subfloor that was still wet cups and buckles, one laid without an expansion gap at the perimeter has nowhere to go and lifts, one laid in a room that is then heated to a dry winter humidity shrinks and opens gaps at every joint. None of that is a defect in the flooring, and none of it can be corrected afterwards without lifting the floor. So the standard governs the three parties that a flooring dispute involves. For the installer it sets the conditions the substrate must meet - flatness, moisture content, cleanliness - the acclimatisation of the material before laying, the expansion allowances, the fixing methods for the different constructions, and the treatment of underfloor heating, which is the hardest case because the floor is deliberately cycled through a temperature range. For acceptance it sets what is checked and to what tolerance, and when, so that a floor is signed off on defined criteria rather than on an argument. And for the user it sets the conditions under which the floor must be kept and maintained, which is what makes a warranty enforceable in either direction. Issued on 14 May 2018 and in force since 1 December 2018, it replaces GB/T 20238-2006.

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, paving requirements, completion acceptance requirements, and use of wooden floor covering, acceptance and use specifications.
