Scope
GB/T 1919-2023 is the English-translated version of 工业氢氧化钾.
GB/T 1919-2023 is the Chinese product standard for industrial potassium hydroxide. It gives the classification, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules, the signs, labels and accompanying documents and the packaging, transport and storage of the product, and it applies to industrial potassium hydroxide.
The requirements cover iron, potassium carbonate and chloride, and this edition adds nickel and heavy metals as lead, with a potentiometric titration for chloride set as the arbitration method.
A warning states that under GB 12268-2012 the product is a Class 8 corrosive substance. It cites GB 190, GB/T 3049-2006, GB/T 3050-2000, GB/T 6682-2008, GB/T 23950 and the three parts of HG/T 3696.
It replaces GB/T 1919-2014, was issued on 7 September 2023 and has applied since 1 April 2024.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 1919-2014 "Industrial Potassium Hydroxide". Compared with GB/T 1919-2014, except for structural adjustment and editorial in addition to the modifications, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Delete the GM category of industrial potassium hydroxide produced by the diaphragm method (see Chapter 4 of the 2014 edition);
b) Changed solid type III specifications (see Chapter 5, Chapter 4 of the 2014 edition);
c) The indicators of iron (Fe), potassium carbonate (K2CO3), and chloride (calculated as Cl) have been changed (see 6.2, 5.2 of the 2014 version);
d) Added items, indicators and test methods for nickel (Ni) and heavy metals (calculated as Pb) (see 6.2, 7.9, and 7.10);
e) Deleted the sulfate (calculated as SO4) items, indicators and test methods (see 5.2 and 6.5 of the 2014 edition);
f) The potentiometric titration method for determination of chloride content was added and set as the arbitration method (see 7.4.1);
g) Delete the "Safety" chapter (see Chapter 10 of the 2014 edition).
