Scope

GB/T 18773-2008 is the English-translated version of 医疗废物焚烧环境卫生标准.

GB/T 18773-2008 specifies the environmental sanitation standard values for the incineration of medical waste and the methods used to monitor them.

It sets technical performance requirements for incinerators, based on GB 19218 and GB 18484 (furnace temperature at least 850 °C, flue gas residence time at least 2.0 s, combustion efficiency at least 99.9%, loss on ignition of residues below 5%), and maximum emission concentrations for smoke dust, CO, SO2, HF, HCl, NOx, heavy metals and dioxins graded by incinerator capacity and referred to 11% O2.

It further gives permissible limits for air pollutants within the plant area, for toxic substances in workplace air, for water pollutants discharged by the plant, and requirements on noise, odorous pollutants and solid waste, with the chemical and physical test methods referenced in Clause 2.

It replaces GB/T 18773-2002: the title has been changed, limits for workplace air, water discharges, workplace and non-noise work location noise and boundary odour have been added, and the former discharge standard for incineration residues has given way to solid waste pollution control requirements.

Foreword

This standard replaces GB/T 18773-2002, Environmental sanitation standard for incineration of medical treatment wastes. The main changes of this standard compared with GB/T 18773-2002 are as follows:

- the title of the standard has been changed;

- permissible concentration limits for toxic substances in workplace air have been added;

- discharge limits for water pollutants have been added;

- noise limits for workplaces have been added;

- noise limits for non-noise work locations have been added;

- boundary limits for odorous pollutants have been added;

- the discharge standard for incineration residues of medical waste has been deleted, and pollution control requirements for solid waste have been added.

This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Construction of the People's Republic of China.

This standard is under the jurisdiction of Shanghai Municipal Administration of City Appearance and Environmental Sanitation, the unit responsible for technical standards on urban environmental sanitation of the Ministry of Construction.

Drafting organization of this standard: Shenyang Environmental Sanitation Engineering Design and Research Institute.
