Foreword

This standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This standard instead of GB/T 17345-2008 "linen hit linen", this standard and GB/T 17345-2008 compared to the main changes are as follows:

1 Scope

China's national product standard for scutched flax - the long line fibre that comes off the scutching turbine, and the raw material of every linen yarn. It specifies the quality requirements, the sampling quantity and method, the test methods, the inspection rules, and the packaging, marking, transport and storage of scutched flax. Flax reaches this state after a long and largely biological sequence: the straw is pulled rather than cut to keep the fibre length, retted in the field or in water so that micro-organisms break down the pectin binding the fibre to the woody core, dried, broken, and then scutched - beaten and scraped so that the shive falls away and the long fibre strands are combed out. Every one of those steps can be done well or badly, and the result cannot be corrected afterwards. Under-retted flax will not separate and spins hard; over-retted flax has lost strength that no process returns. So the fibre is bought on grade, and the grade has to be assigned consistently by people at a bench. That is what the standard is for. It sets the quality requirements as grades defined by the properties a spinner cares about - the length and the uniformity of the strands, the fineness, the strength, the colour, the softness and combing behaviour, and the residual shive and impurity content - and it fixes the sampling, because a bale of natural fibre is not uniform and a grade assigned from an unrepresentative handful is worthless. The test methods, the inspection rules and the packaging and storage requirements complete it; storage matters here because flax is hygroscopic and mildews. Issued on 14 June 2016 and in force since 1 January 2017, it replaces GB/T 17345-2008.

3 Terms and definitions

GB/T 5707 Definitions and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Graded qualityofentirety The completeness of bark fibers per plant.

3.2 Uniformity degreeofregularity The degree of linen fiber rooting in the hemp bundle, and the difference in the length of the fiber.

3.3 Density degreeofweighty Fiber tight and feel the degree of severity.

3.4 Absence of processing Due to degumming or playing linen contains dead crumbs (continuous length is equal to or greater than 30mm) of the hemp.

4 Quality requirements
