Scope
GB/T 16923-2026 is the English-translated version of 钢件的正火与退火.
GB/T 16923-2026 covers the normalizing and annealing of steel parts, two common heat treatment processes. It sets out the materials and processing conditions for the parts, the equipment, the processes, quality inspection, safety and hygiene, energy consumption and product reporting requirements.
The contents include a classification of the processes with their codes and applications, the steel parts to be treated, normalizing and annealing equipment, and appendices of recommended process parameters and critical temperatures for commonly used steels.
This edition adds a vacuum annealing process and requirements for steel grade and chemical composition. Issued on 2 July 2026 and applicable from 1 February 2027, it replaces GB/T 16923-2008.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".
This document replaces GB/T 16923-2008 "Normalizing and Annealing of Steel Parts". Compared with GB/T 16923-2008, except for structural adjustments and... Aside from editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) The term "aberration" has been removed (see 3.1 in the 2008 edition);
b) A "vacuum annealing" process has been added (see Table 1);
c) Requirements for the material grade and chemical composition of steel components have been added (see 5.1);
d) Requirements for measuring the temperature uniformity of gas-fired heating furnaces have been added (see 6.1.1);
e) The requirements for temperature uniformity of the heating furnace have been changed (see Table 4, 2008 edition);
f) The relevant provisions for hot bath heating furnaces and fluidized particle furnaces have been deleted (see 6.1.5 and 6.1.7 of the 2008 edition);
g) The requirements for vacuum furnaces have been changed (see 6.1.5, 6.1.6 in the 2008 edition);
h) The requirements for temperature measurement and temperature control have been changed (see 6.2, 2008 version 6.2);
i) The specifications for hardness tolerance have been changed (see Table 5, Table 5 in the 2008 edition);
j) Increased requirements for process records (see 7.6);
l) Increased energy consumption requirements (see Chapter 10).
1 Scope
This document specifies the materials and processing conditions for normalized and annealed steel parts, as well as the equipment, processes, quality inspection, safety and hygiene, and energy efficiency requirements for normalized and annealed steel parts.
