Scope
GB/T 14617.3-2012 is the English-translated version of 陆地移动业务和固定业务传播特性 第3部分:视距微波接力通信系统传播特性.
GB/T 14617.3-2012 is Part 3 of the Chinese national standard on propagation characteristics in the land mobile and fixed services, and gives the parameters used when designing line-of-sight radio-relay circuits.
It covers the main propagation equations and hop parameters, clearance and Fresnel radius, diffraction loss, gas absorption and rain attenuation, refraction and its classification, reflection and cross-polarization discrimination, the calculation of space and frequency diversity, and the prediction of fading probability for analogue microwave links and of outage rate for digital ones.
Normative annexes give rainfall intensity and water vapour density data for China, the radio-meteorological data base and the cross-polarization prediction method.
It applies to line-of-sight radio-relay systems of any capacity and any band. It replaces GB/T 14617.3-1993, was issued on 31 December 2012 and has applied since 1 June 2013.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Free space propagation
Electromagnetic wave in full uniform over the dielectric, and that it is spread extends infinitely in all directions.
3.2 Fresnel zone
Space receive the focus point of a series of ellipsoid surrounded each of the points on the spherical surface and a transceiver to send and receive point distance The shortest path difference is an integral multiple of a half wavelength, n is the number multiples Fresnel zone.
3.3 Fresnel radius
Section radius of the circle in the Fresnel zone is perpendicular to the point of connection of the transceiver.
3.4 Refractive index
It is used to describe temporal and spatial variation of the refractive index of a parameter, which has the following relationship with the refractive index nr. N = (nr-1) x 10^6.
