Scope
GB/T 143-2017 is the English-translated version of 锯切用原木.
GB/T 143-2017 is the Chinese national standard for ripping logs, the coniferous and broad-leaved logs intended for sawing into timber. It refers to the log defect and log inspection terms of GB/T 155 and GB/T 15787 and sets the technical requirements and test methods for these logs.
The requirements cover the tree species and their main uses, listed in an annex, the log length - 2 m to 8 m for conifers and 2 m to 6 m for broad-leaved trees, in steps of 0.2 m - the inspection diameter, from 14 cm upward in steps of 2 cm, and the defects allowed.
It applies to timber production, processing and distribution in China. It replaces GB/T 143-2006, was issued on 29 December 2017 and has applied since 1 July 2018.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 143-2006 "sawing logs." Compared with GB/T 143-2006, the main technical content changes as follows.
--- Added "terms and definitions."
--- Unified inspection of the country with a wooden log diameter, since more than 14cm.
--- Modified live (only conifers, broad-leaved trees are not limited), dead section, ring crack, arc crack, bending defects limit.
--- Removed the test method of "wood defects."
This standard proposed by the State Forestry Administration.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the sawing timber terms and definitions, technical requirements and test methods.
This standard applies to the national timber production, processing and distribution areas.

4.1 Species and main purposes
4.1.1 Tree species
Conifers, broad-leaved trees.
4.1.2 The main purpose of common tree species
See Appendix A.
4.2 Size
4.2.1 Test length
Coniferous trees 2m ~ 8m, broad-leaved trees 2m ~ 6m, according to 0.2m upgrade. Long tolerance. 6-2cm.
4.2.2 Inspection diameter
Since 14cm above, according to 2cm upgrade.
