Scope
GB/T 12920-2008 is the English-translated version of 船用气动系统通用技术条件.
GB/T 12920-2008 specifies the selection of components and accessories, the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport and storage of pneumatic systems for ships, and applies to the design and production of pneumatic systems for all kinds of ships and offshore engineering.
It sets the quality of the air supply (oil content up to 1 mg/m3, particles up to 1 µm, pressure dew point not above -40 °C), requirements for air receivers under GB 150 and the CCS rules, the product standards for valves, filters, lubricators, cylinders, motors and fittings, emergency stop and reset devices, piping (colour coding, air velocity up to 30 m/s, 1 % to 3 % slope, support spacing and a table of maximum recommended flow by pressure and bore) and the content and marking of circuit diagrams.
Performance requirements cover appearance, normal operation at 0 °C to 55 °C and high humidity, heel ± 15°, trim ± 5°, rolling ± 22.5° and pitching ± 7.5°, salt spray, supply voltage and frequency tolerances, leak-tightness at 1.25 and strength at 1.50 times nominal pressure, enclosure protection to GB 4208 and noise below 85 dB(A), each with its test method, followed by type and routine inspection rules.
It replaces GB/T 12920-1991, adding among other things component requirements, emergency devices, overpressure protection, air receiver rules, recommended flow rates, pipe support spacing and noise limits, and revising the inclination, rolling and vibration values.
It was issued on 3 February 2008 and has been in force since 1 August 2008. Classification: ICS 47.020.20, CCS U57. The document runs to 10 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword
This standard replaces GB/T 12920-1991, General specification for pneumatic system of ship.
Compared with GB/T 12920-1991, the main changes in this standard are as follows:
- markings such as port identification have been added;
- the inclination, rolling and vibration values have been modified;
- the requirement "air velocity in piping not greater than 30 m/s" has been added;
- the requirement that electrical wiring diagrams be consistent with pneumatic circuit diagrams has been added;
- requirements for the various components of the system have been added;
- emergency stop or emergency reset devices have been added;
- overpressure protection measures have been added;
- specific details to be given in pneumatic system diagrams have been added (ports, test points, bleed ports and restrictor fittings, and both ends of the pipes of air supplies and devices shall be identified; each pipe of a circuit shall be numbered);
- requirements for air receivers have been added;
- working pressures and maximum recommended flow rates have been added;
- specifications for the spacing of pipe supports have been added;
- noise limits have been added.
