Scope
GB 1255-2007 is the English-translated version of 工作基准试剂 无水碳酸钠.
GB 1255-2007 specifies the properties, specifications, tests, inspection rules, and packaging and marking of the working chemical sodium carbonate anhydrous (Na2CO3, relative molecular mass 105.99), and applies to its inspection when used as a reference reagent in titrimetric analysis.
The product must have a Na2CO3 content of 99.95% to 100.05%, pass clarity standard No. 2, lose not more than 0.5% on ignition, and meet impurity limits for chloride, sulfur compounds, total nitrogen, phosphate and silicate, magnesium, aluminium, potassium, calcium, iron and heavy metals.
Content is determined by weighing titration with hydrochloric acid against a reference sodium carbonate in accordance with GB 10738; magnesium, potassium and calcium are determined by flame atomic absorption to GB/T 9723-1988, and the other impurities by turbidimetric or colorimetric comparison with standard solutions.
It replaces GB 1255-1990, renaming the standard and modifying the content determination method. Issued on 2 February 2007, in force from 1 November 2007. Classification: ICS 71.040.30, CCS G61. The document runs to 7 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

This standard replaces GB 1255-1990 "Working chemical (volumetric) - Sodium carbonate anhydrous". Compared with GB 1255-1990, the main changes are as follows:
- the title of the standard has been changed to "Working chemical - Sodium carbonate anhydrous";
- the method for the determination of content has been modified (4.1 of the 1990 edition; 5.3 of this edition).
This standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the Subcommittee on Chemical Reagents of the National Technical Committee for Chemical Standardization (SAC/TC 63/SC 3).
