Scope

GB 11767-2003 is the English-translated version of 茶树种苗.

GB 11767-2003 specifies the quality grading indices, test methods, inspection rules, packaging and transport of cuttings from cutting orchards and of cutting seedlings of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis (L.)

O. Kuntze, for clonal large-leaf and medium- and small-leaf varieties.

It defines the terms used (clone, varietal purity, standard cutting, utilization rate of shoots, seedling age, height, diameter, lateral roots), sets requirements for cutting orchards (soil pH 4.5 to 5.5, depth of at least 80 cm, planting at 1.5 m by 0.3 m to 0.4 m) and grades cuttings and seedlings into grades I and II.

Cuttings are graded on 100% purity, utilization rate (>= 65% or >= 50%), diameter and length; seedlings on purity, age, height (>= 30 cm for grade I), stem diameter and number of lateral roots; test methods give formulas for purity and utilization rate, and sampling tables fix the quantities to be inspected, with a 10% tolerance for individuals below grade.

It replaces GB 11767-1989, Seeds and seedlings of tea plant, removing the content on sexually propagated varieties; normative annexes give the formats of the inspection certificates and seedling labels.

Issued on 4 June 2003, in force from 1 December 2003. Classification: ICS 65.020.20, CCS B21. The document runs to 9 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword

Tea is one of the main economic crops of China and plays a positive role in adjusting the rural industrial structure, increasing farmers' incomes and helping farmers to become prosperous and reach a moderately well-off standard of living.

In 1989 the former State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision issued GB 11767-1989, Seeds and seedlings of tea plant, which played a positive role in regulating the propagation and extension of improved tea plant varieties in China and the establishment of high-standard tea gardens. With the development of tea production and the progress of science and technology, part of the content of that standard no longer met the present requirement for clonal improved varieties in tea gardens. The original standard has therefore been revised to meet the needs of the current propagation and extension of improved tea plant varieties, and the content relating to seeds and seedlings of sexually propagated varieties has been deleted. This standard replaces GB 11767-1989, Seeds and seedlings of tea plant.

Annex A, Annex B and Annex C of this standard are normative annexes.

This standard was proposed by the Department of Market and Economic Information of the Ministry of Agriculture.

This standard is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Crop Production of the Ministry of Agriculture.
