NB/T 20443-2017 sets the rules for radiation protection at nuclear power plants in operation. It gives the basic radiation protection requirements to be met while a plant is running, and it applies from commissioning onwards, that is once the first fuel load has been placed in the reactor.

Production activities that carry a radiation risk, among them inspection, testing and maintenance, are brought under the plant's radiation control and nuclear emergency response arrangements.

Siting, design, construction and decommissioning are not governed by the standard but may follow it by reference. GB 18871 and GB 11806 are quoted. Issued on 1 April 2017, it has applied since 1 October 2017.
