GB/Z 112-2026 is the English-translated version of 中医药 中西医结合临床术语系统分类框架.
GB/Z 112-2026 is a guiding technical document, not a mandatory standard, that sets out how clinical vocabulary is organised when traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine are practised together.
It defines the core classification structure of that terminology system as twenty-four top-level categories, among them symptoms and signs, syndromes, diseases, body composition, drugs, detection indicators, samples, diagnosis, intervention, laboratory operations, medical record structure, units of measurement, physical factors and clinical events.
It also defines base terms including concept, concept system, term, terminological system and class, and carries no normative references. Clause 1 directs the document at building electronic medical records and at the informatization of clinical records in integrated medicine.
The text is a modified adoption of ISO/TS 22990:2019. It was issued on 4 January 2026.

Foreword
This document is a standard or guiding technical document.
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting.
This document is modified to adopt ISO /T S22990.2019 "Systematic Classification Framework of Clinical Terminology for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine", and the document type has been changed from... The ISO technical specifications have been adapted into my country's national standardization guidance technical documents.
Compared with ISO /T S22990.2019, this document has undergone the following structural adjustments.
---4.1 corresponds to Chapter 4, Paragraph 1 of ISO /T S22990.2019;
---Sections 4.2 to 4.4 correspond to sections 4.1 to 4.3 of ISO /T S22990.2019;
---4.5 corresponds to sections 4.4, 4.5, and 4.17 of ISO /T S22990.2019;
---4.17~4.20 correspond to 4.18~4.21 of ISO /T S22990.2019;
---4.25 corresponds to 4.27 of ISO /T S22990.2019.
The technical differences between this document and ISO /T S22990.2019, and the reasons therefor, are as follows.
---The definitions of the terms "Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Western Medicine" have been revised (see 3.9 and 3.10, ISO /T S22990.2019 3.9 and 3.10) for greater accuracy.
---The 27 top-level categories of the clinical terminology system for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine have been changed to 24 top-level categories (see 4.1, ISO /T S22990.
(Chapter 4, Paragraph 1, 2019) to meet the actual system construction requirements;
---Changes have been made to syndromes, diseases, drug processing, substances, phrases, units of measurement and classifiers, environment and geographical location, physical factors, and clinical events.
The meaning of the classification of parts, etc. (see 4.3, 4.4, 4.13, 4.16, 4.19, 4.20, 4.22, 4.23, 4.25, ISO /T S22990.2019)
4.2, 4.3, 4.13, 4.16, 4.20, 4.21, 4.22, 4.23, 4.27) changed the classification and meaning of management, instruments and equipment (see 4.14 and 4.15 (ISO /T S22990.2019), to comply with my country's technical requirements;
---The term "physiological structure" has been changed to "body composition," and "functional systems" and "body substances" have been incorporated into "body composition" (see 4.5).
(Ref. 4.4, 4.5, and 4.17 of ISO /T S22990.2019) to meet the actual system construction requirements;
---Added "constraint values" (see 4.21) to meet the actual construction requirements of the system;
---The terms "special concepts" and "connecting concepts" (see sections 4.25 and 4.26 of ISO /T S22990.2019) have been removed because they do not belong to the clinical terminology system.
The content actually used in the system may not belong to the core framework category.
The following editorial changes have been made to this document.
---GB/T 15237-2025 replaces the informative references ISO /T S18876-1, ISO 1087-1:2000, and
ISO 18104:2014 (see 3.1~3.3, ISO /T S22990.2019 3.1~3.3);
---The source of the term "class" has been changed (see 3.5, ISO /T S22990.2019).
---Added explanations of the clinical terminology system for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine (see 4.1), examples of symptoms and signs (see 4.2), and examples of phrases (see 4.3).
---The notes and examples for physical factors have been modified (see 4.23, ISO /T S22990.2019 4.23);
---Figure 1 has been modified (see Chapter 5, Chapter 5 of ISO /T S22990.2019).
Introduction
The clinical terminology used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) differs somewhat from that in Western medicine, but in real-world clinical practice... In practice, clinical terminology from both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine needs to be used in combination. Currently, the clinical terminology system in the biomedical field is relatively complete, and the clinical terminology of traditional Chinese medicine... There are also independent system frameworks, but neither can independently meet the needs of clinical data storage, processing, retrieval, and analysis, and a large number of clinical terms... It has not yet been effectively categorized and lacks a unified and efficient management mechanism. With the rapid development of computer technology and medical informatization and digitalization, there is an urgent need to address this issue.
This requires a comprehensive system that covers all concepts and terms used in clinical diagnosis and treatment in both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and a classification framework is essential for this.
This is the foundation for building a systematic framework and also a fundamental requirement for promoting the continuous development of the terminology system.
This document aims to assist users in constructing a logically rigorous and clearly structured clinical terminology system integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, thereby providing a foundation for clinical practice.
It provides strong support for the informatization and digitalization of medical care, and further promotes the modernization of the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
1 Scope
This document establishes the core classification structure of the clinical terminology system for both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine.
