Its scope clause reads: This document specifies the requirements for decorative nickel, nickel-chromium, copper-nickel and copper on steel, zinc and zinc alloys, copper and copper alloys, and aluminium and aluminium alloys.

This document does not apply to the electroplating of unfinished sheet, strip, wire, nor to the electroplating of threaded fasteners or coil springs. GB/T 12600 specifies the requirements for copper-nickel-chromium electroplating on plastics.

GB/T 12332 and GB/T 11379 respectively stipulate the work requirements for engineering nickel and engineering chromium plating.
