GB/T 8883-2017 is the Chinese national standard for edible wheat starch, the starch produced from the wheat flour of GB/T 1355. It defines wheat A starch, whose granules are generally 10 µm or larger and which accounts for more than 70% of the mass of wheat starch, and wheat B starch, whose granules are generally smaller than 10 µm.
It sets the technical requirements, including the safety indicators and the speckle, fineness, whiteness and nitrogen indicators of the two types, the test methods, among them the fat determination of Annex A, the inspection and acceptance rules, and the requirements for labels, signs, packaging, transport, storage and sale.
It replaces GB/T 8883-2008, was issued on 29 December 2017 and has applied since 1 July 2018.
