Scope
GB/T 8618-2021 is the English-translated version of 制盐工业主要产品取样方法.
GB/T 8618-2021 sets out how to take test samples of the main products of the salt industry: edible salt, industrial salt, industrial potassium chloride, industrial magnesium chloride and industrial bromine.
It also gives the sampling method for checking the iodine content of iodized edible salt. It applies to sampling during production, delivery, supervision and random inspection.
The standard defines sampling unit, lot, lot size, increment, reduced sample, laboratory sample, spare sample and the standard deviation of quality variation, which ranks products by large, medium or small quality fluctuation, and it fixes the general rules, such as sealable containers and sample storage, and the minimum number of increments for edible salt in different package sizes.
It replaces GB/T 8618-2001, was issued on 31 December 2021 and has applied since 1 July 2022.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1. Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" drafted.
This document replaces GB/T 8618-2001 "Sampling Method for Main Products of Salt Industry". Compared with GB/T 8618-2001, except for the structure In addition to adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
--- Added sampling for production links (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2001 edition);
--- Changed the definitions of the terms "batch", "batch", "alternate sample" and "standard deviation of quality fluctuation" (see 3.2, 3.3, 3.7, 3.8, 2001 version 3.2.2, 3.2.8, 3.2.10);
--- Delete the terms and symbols such as "large sample", "preparation sample", "standard deviation", "unit product", "sample" (see 3.2.4 of the 2001 edition, 3.2.5, 3.2.9, 4.2);
--- Added "the container for the final sample should be sealable" (see 4.1.1);
--- Deleted the provisions of products mixed with foreign debris in the general provisions (see 3.1.3 of the 2001 edition);
--- Changed the provisions on the storage period of samples (see 4.1.3, 3.1.4 of the 2001 edition);
---Delete the method for determining the number of aliquots determined by the specified method, by calculation by statistical formula, and by increasing the number of incremental samples in batches (See 3.3.1, 3.3.2, 3.3.4 of the 2001 edition);
--- Increased the classification of edible salt quality fluctuations (see 4.4.1);
--- Changed the minimum number of samples that should be taken for edible salt and the determination method of the minimum number of samples, and the sample collection of edible salt with different packaging specifications. Take the method (see 4.4.2, 3.4.4 of the 2001 edition);
--- Added provisions on the types of quality fluctuations applicable to refined industrial salt and sun-dried industrial salt (see 4.5.1);
--- Changed the sampling method for the iodine content inspection of iodized edible salt (see Chapter 5, Chapter 4 of the 2001 edition).
1 Scope
This document specifies the test samples of edible salt, industrial salt, industrial potassium chloride, industrial magnesium chloride and industrial bromine products, which are the main products of the salt industry.
The sampling method for the iodine content inspection of iodized edible salt is specified.
This document is applicable to sampling in the production, delivery, supervision and random inspection of major products in the salt industry.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Sampling unit
A certain quantity of material with bounds.
Note: Its boundaries may be tangible, such as a container; it may also be imagined, such as a certain time interval of material flow.
3.2 Lot
A batch of products of the same grade, produced by the same batch of raw materials, the same production line, and the same processing method, and delivered at one time, constitutes a batch.
3.3 Lot size
The number of units of product contained in the batch.
3.4 Increment
A specified sample taken from a point or part of a batch of products.
3.5 Reduced sample
A representative sample taken from all incremental samples of a batch of product in accordance with the specified method.
3.6 Laboratory sample
Samples sent to a laboratory for inspection and testing.
3.7 Spare sample
A sample prepared at the same time as the laboratory sample.
3.8 Quality variation standard deviation (Sw)
The standard deviation of the fluctuation of the quality characteristics of the principal components (or a key indicator of interest) between samples within a batch.
Note: According to the Sw value, the quality fluctuation of various products can be divided into three types. large, medium and small.
