1 Scope

GB/T 6960.1-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the vocabulary of the tractor as a whole - the types and categories, the masses and dimensions, the track and wheelbase, the ratings and the performance terms, and the hitch and implement interfaces. Part 1 of the series, with Part 2 on the transmission revised the same day. It replaces GB/T 6960.1-2007, in force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB/T 6960.1-2007.

This document defines the terminology and definitions for tractors as a whole. This document applies to the production, research, teaching and other related fields of tractors.

3 Tractors and their types

3.1 tractor Self-propelled power machinery used for towing, pushing, carrying and driving auxiliary implements or detachable loading platforms for operation.

3.2 agricultural tractor Tractors used for agricultural (crop farming) operations such as tilling, management, farmland infrastructure construction, and transportation.

3.3 Agricultural tractors that are used for operations such as tillage, sowing, harvesting and transportation.

3.4 industrial tractor Tractors used for engineering construction and earthmoving operations.

3.5 Forestry tractor Tractors used for transporting timber and afforestation operations in forest areas.

3.6 Mudder tractor Agricultural tractors suitable for operation in paddy fields.

3.7 hilly and mountainous tractors Tractors capable of operating on slopes with an inclination of at least 10°.

3.8 Hilside tractor Tractors suitable for working along contour lines on slopes.

3.9 Tractors are mainly used for cultivation and management in orchards and vineyards.
