Scope
GB/T 5008.2-2023 is the English-translated version of 起动用铅酸蓄电池 第2部分:产品品种规格和端子尺寸、标记.
GB/T 5008.2-2023 is the dimensional standard that makes a car battery replaceable. A starter battery sits in a tray sized for it, is held by a clamp that engages its base or its rim, and connects through terminals whose taper, diameter and polarity position must match the cables - which are cut to length and cannot be stretched. Get any of it wrong and the battery does not fit, or fits and works loose, or forces the positive cable across the vehicle to reach a terminal on the wrong side. Since batteries are replaced several times over a vehicle's life, usually by someone with only the size code to go on, the standardisation of these dimensions is what makes the aftermarket work at all. This part specifies the model designation system and terminal polarity marking, the battery types and classification, and the terminal positions and dimensions for lead-acid starter batteries. Under ICS 29.220.20 and CCS K84, it is written for battery manufacturers, for vehicle makers designing the battery compartment, and for the distributors and workshops who have to match a replacement to a vehicle.

1 Scope
This document specifies the model compilation and terminal polarity marking, battery model and classification, battery terminal position and terminal dimensions of lead-acid starter batteries (hereinafter referred to as batteries).
2 Normative references

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 2900.41 apply to this document.
4 Symbols
The names and symbols given in this document are shown in Table 1.
5 Battery model compilation and terminal polarity identification
The battery shall have a polarity identification on the terminal or cover. The symbol of the form "-" shall be used near the negative terminal.
6 Battery classification and model
When the battery mass is less than or equal to 20 kg, it shall be designed to have no handle, one handle, or two handles; when the battery mass is greater than 20 kg, it can The frame and recess are integral parts of the battery trough; the battery can be fixed by means of the bottom of the battery trough.
7 Dimensions of battery terminals
Conical terminal classification T1 or T2 and the dimensions of the positive and negative terminals shall comply with Figure 29 and Table 14.
