Scope
GB/T 4812-2016 is the English-translated version of 特级原木.
GB/T 4812-2016 fixes the terminology and definitions, the requirements, the test methods, the volume calculation and the sampling method for logs of super grade.
Clause 1 applies it to the high quality logs used for high grade building work, decoration, the decoration of cultural relics, furniture, musical instruments and various special purposes.
Clause 3 takes its terms and definitions from GB/T 155 and GB/T 15787, and clause 4 carries the requirements: the species name must agree with Appendix A, and the sizes must follow Table 1, which asks for lengths of 2 m to 6 m with a check diameter of 22 cm and above for coniferous species (20 cm and above for cedar and fir) and of 24 cm and above for broadleaved species (20 cm and above for white birch), lengths being graded in steps of 0.2 m and check diameters in steps of 2 cm.
Table 2 holds the permitted defect limits and Appendix A the names of the main applicable species.
The changes recorded against the previous edition show what the document controls: the species list, the length and the check diameter were adjusted, the allowable limits for splitting were modified, the limits for tree pockets (hidden sections) and for bend were relaxed, and limits for pockets, multi-directional bending and bursting were added along with the names of the main applicable species.
The standard was proposed by the State Forestry Administration and is administered by the National Technical Committee on Timber Standardization (SAC/TC41), with drafting by the Heilongjiang Forest Industry Administration, the Heilongjiang Institute of Wood Science, the Guilin Forestry Bureau timber corporation and several forestry bureaus.
It replaces GB/T 4812-2006, with GB 4812-1984 and GB/T 4812-1995 listed as the editions before that, was issued on 2016-10-13 and has applied since 2017-05-01.

Foreword
This standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This standard replaces GB/T 4812-2006 "special logs".
This standard and GB/T 4812-2006 compared to the main amendments are as follows.
--- adjust the tree species, foot length, check the ruler (see 4.1, 4.2, 2006 version 3.1,3.2);
- modified the allowable limits for splitting (see Table 2 in Table 2, Table 2 in 2006, version 3.3);
- relax the tree bag (hidden section), bend the limit (see Table 2 in Table 2, Table 2 in Table 3.3 of 2006); (2) Table 2, Table 2 of 2006, 3.3);
- increased pocket, multi-directional bending, burst limits and the name of the main applicable species (see Table 2 and Appendix A in 4.3).
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terminology and definition of special logs, requirements, test methods, volume calculation, sampling method.
This standard applies to high-grade buildings, decoration, cultural relics decoration, furniture, musical instruments and various special-purpose high-quality logs.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 155 and GB/T 15787 apply to this document.
4 Requirements
4.1 Tree name
The name of the tree species shall comply with the requirements of Appendix A.
4.2 Size
4.2.1 size should be consistent with the provisions of Table 1.
4.2.2 scale long press 0.2m upgrade, long tolerance. 6-2cm.
4.2.3 Check the foot size by 2cm upgrade.
