3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 desert

A barren region where the ground is completely covered by sand, vegetation is sparse, rainfall is scarce, and the air is dry.

Note. Deserts are also known as "sand curtains".

3.2 Gobi

Large desert and semi-desert regions.

Note. Most areas of the Gobi Desert are not deserts but bare rock, hence the name "Gobi Desert".
