Scope

GB/T 45207-2025 is the English-translated version of 鸡遗传资源活体保护技术规范.

GB/T 45207-2025 is the Chinese technical specification for conserving chicken genetic resources in vivo. China holds more indigenous chicken breeds than any other country and is losing them to the commercial hybrids, and a live conservation flock is the only way to keep a breed whose value lies in traits nobody has yet characterised. Keeping one is genetically demanding: a small closed population inbreeds and drifts unless the mating is managed deliberately. The standard sets the requirements on the conservation farm and its isolation and biosecurity, the constitution of the conservation flock and its minimum effective population size, the family structure and the mating system used to hold inbreeding to a defined rate per generation, the selection or deliberate non-selection applied, the generation interval and the replacement, the identification and pedigree recording, the health management and the emergency arrangements, and the monitoring and evaluation of the genetic status of the flock. It takes effect on 1 August 2025.

Technical Specifications for the In vivo Conservation of Chicken Genetic Resources

1 Scope

This document stipulates the basic requirements for seed farms and gene banks for the live conservation of chicken genetic resources, the establishment, breeding and conservation methods of seed populations. It also describes the requirements for supplementary exchange of genetic resources and archival record keeping and management, and describes the methods for monitoring and evaluating the protection effects. This document is applicable to breeding farms and gene banks for the in vivo conservation of chicken genetic resources.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 The seed conservation group establishes a family, uses the family to retain seeds in equal quantities, and conducts successive breeding according to the incomplete random mating or rotation mode. method.

3.2 The seed conservation population does not establish pedigrees, but adopts a seed conservation method of random seed retention and successive breeding according to a random mating pattern.

3.3 In each generation of successive breeding, all roosters in each family select the same number of offspring roosters, and all hens select the same number of offspring roosters. Number of offspring hens.

Note. A rooster, several hens and their offspring constitute a family.
