GB/T 27534.9-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the field survey of a local poultry breed, now covering pigeon, quail, turkey, guinea fowl, pheasant, partridge, Muscovy duck, mallard, ostrich and emu as well as chicken, duck and goose — the body measurements and appearance, the growth, slaughter, meat, down, liver, leather and egg indicators, the reproductive performance and vitality, the rearing methods, and the records, video material and archives that let a breed be recognised years later. Part 9 of the series. It replaces GB/T 27534.9-2011, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In force from 1 November 2025. Issued on 25 April 2025, it has been in force since 1 November 2025, replacing GB/T 27534.9-2011.

GB/T 27534 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources" and GB/T 45550 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Bee Genetic Resources", GB/T 45552 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Silkworm Genetic Resources" and GB/T 45553 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Tussah Genetic Resources" jointly form the support The basis for the investigation of genetic resources of livestock, poultry, bees and silkworms.

This document replaces GB/T 27534.9-2011 "Technical Specifications for Survey of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Part 9: Poultry" and GB/T 27534.9- Compared with 2011, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial modifications, the main technical changes are as follows.

a) The scope of application has been expanded to include pigeons, quails, turkeys, guinea fowl, pheasants, partridges, Muscovy ducks, mallards, ostriches and emus (see Chapter 1);

b) Added the hip bone width index in body measurement, back length, sacrum height and tube circumference index for ostrich and emu (see 6.3.1);

c) Meat production performance and meat quality are subdivided into growth and development, slaughter performance and meat quality, and the survey content is changed (see 6.3.2, 6.3.3, 6.3.4, 5.3.2 of the 2011 edition);

d) The index of down quality rate has been deleted (see 5.3.3 of the 2011 edition);

e) Added liver performance indicators (see 6.3.6);

f) The reproductive performance was subdivided into egg quality, reproductive performance, vitality, feeding and breeding methods, and the survey content was changed (see 6.3.8, 6.3.9, 6.3.10, 6.4, 5.3.4 of the 2011 edition);

g) Added survey methods (see Chapter 7);

h) Increased body weight, growth, meat quality, wool/hair production, liver performance, leather performance, egg quality, reproductive performance, Number of investigations of vitality (see 7.3.1, 7.4.1, 7.6.1, 7.7.1, 7.8.1, 7.9.1, 7.10.1, 7.11.1, 7.12.1);

i) The poultry genetic resources survey table (see Appendix B, Appendix A of the 2011 edition) has been modified.

Introduction

Livestock and poultry genetic resources are important strategic resources for maintaining national ecological security and agricultural security, and are the material basis for the high-quality development of animal husbandry.

Conducting livestock and poultry genetic resource surveys is a statutory duty stipulated in the Animal Husbandry Law of the People’s Republic of China and is an important task in approving new livestock and poultry breeds (supporting lines) and identifying The basic requirements for identifying new genetic resources, formulating livestock and poultry genetic resource protection and utilization plans and livestock and poultry genetic resource protection lists, and engaging in breeding livestock and poultry production and management, etc.

GB/T 27534 "Technical Specifications for Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Survey" aims to standardize and guide the investigation of livestock and poultry genetic resources. It consists of eleven parts.

— Part 1: General Principles. The purpose is to provide general survey rules for livestock and poultry genetic resources surveys.

— Part 2: Pig. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of pig genetic resources.

— Part 3: Cattle. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of cattle genetic resources.

— Part 4: Sheep. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of sheep genetic resources.

— Part 5: Goats. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of goat genetic resources.

— Part 6: Horses and donkeys. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of horse and donkey genetic resources.
