GB/T 44611-2024 is the Chinese code of practice for detecting pests in growing media. Peat, coir, bark and rock wool move internationally in enormous volume, often accompanying live plants, and they are one of the least watched pathways for quarantine organisms: a medium is bulk material that looks inert, but it can carry nematodes, soil-borne pathogens, insect eggs, snails and viable weed seed. The standard sets out the basic information to be established about the medium, the testing procedure, the detection targets and the basis for testing, the on-site inspection, and the laboratory testing, which is given separately for insects and molluscs, nematodes, plant pathogenic fungi, plant pathogenic bacteria and weeds, followed by the test result report, with annexes on the flotation separation and modified funnel extraction methods. It takes effect on 1 April 2025.

1 Scope

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 20478 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 Growing medium Any substance in which the roots of plants grow, or which can be used for this purpose.
4 Basic information of cultivation medium
There are many types of cultivation media, which are generally divided into two categories. inorganic media and organic media. Inorganic media include sand, slag, slag, boiling Stone, calcined clay, ceramsite, vermiculite, perlite, rock wool, pumice, schist, volcanic rock, foam plastic, etc.; media derived from organic matter It is called organic medium, including peat, bark, wood chips, rice husk, sludge, peanut shell, bagasse, garbage compost, cottonseed hull, etc. The texture is generally a mixture of one or more of the above ingredients.
