Scope
GB/T 43990-2024 is the English-translated version of 滑雪课程学生运动能力测评规范.
GB/T 43990-2024 is the Chinese national standard for evaluating a student's athletic ability in a skiing course, part of the Ministry of Education's family of school sport assessment standards and one of the products of the drive to bring three hundred million people into winter sport after the Beijing Olympics. Skiing is taught to Chinese students who in most cases have never stood on snow, and the graded ladder is as much a safety instrument as an assessment one, since a student sent onto a slope beyond their grade is the classic ski injury. The standard sets a six-grade classification with the attainment requirements for each level, and then the assessment for each grade, giving the test items, the terrain and equipment required, the procedure and the scoring, running from the basic stance, walking, gliding and snowplough of the first grades through the turns, traversing and speed control to the parallel turns and varied terrain of the highest. It took effect on 28 May 2024.
