1 Scope

GB/T 43986-2024 is the Chinese national standard for evaluating a student's athletic ability in a basketball course, part of the Ministry of Education's family of school sport assessment standards. Basketball is the most played team sport in Chinese schools, and assessing it is harder than assessing an individual sport because much of the ability shows only in play; the standard handles that by combining measured skill tests with prescribed small-sided and full game assessments at the higher grades. It sets a six-grade classification with the attainment requirements for each level, and then the assessment for each grade in turn, with the test items, the court and equipment, the procedure and the scoring, progressing from the ball handling, passing, dribbling and shooting fundamentals of the lower grades through the individual offensive and defensive skills to the team tactical and match play requirements of the highest. The national criteria make grades comparable between schools and provinces. It took effect on 28 May 2024.

This document specifies the classification and achievement requirements of students' athletic ability in basketball courses, and describes the evaluation methods for each level. This document is applicable to the assessment of basketball athletic ability of students in primary school, junior high school, high school and university.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 The comprehensive skills that students develop during basketball practice and competition activities, which include applying dribbling, passing, shooting and other skills to complete specific tasks in the game. Combined performance.

3.2 dribbling The player holding the ball uses one hand to continuously tap the ball that bounces off the ground, or uses both hands to tap the ball alternately.

3.3 moving Various footwork movements used in basketball to change position, direction, speed, and gain height and space.

3.4 breakthrough The player with the ball uses a combination of footwork and dribbling techniques to quickly surpass the opponent's offensive techniques.

3.5 passing and catching A method of purposefully controlling and transferring the ball between offensive players in a basketball game.

3.6 Shooting Various specialized actions used by offensive players to put the ball into the opponent's basket.

4 Classification and compliance requirements

4.1 Level classification The athletic ability of basketball students is divided into 6 levels, namely level 1, level 2, level 3, level 4, level 5 and level 6.
