Scope
GB/T 40500-2021 is the English-translated version of 喷气燃料中芳烃总量的测定 气相色谱法.
GB/T 40500-2021 describes a gas chromatographic method for determining total aromatics in jet fuel, as a mass fraction or a volume fraction. It applies to jet fuels with a final boiling point below 300 °C and to aromatics contents from 0.5% to 35%, and it does not determine the individual hydrocarbons within each group.
The method relies on an aromatics trap, a chromatographic column that selectively and reversibly retains the aromatic components; because olefins co-elute with aromatics, olefins in the sample make the aromatics result too high.
The standard defines saturated hydrocarbons, aromatics and the aromatics trap, and refers to GB/T 4756 and GB/T 27867 for sampling and to GB/T 6683 for precision data.
Its introduction presents it as simpler and quicker than GB/T 11132. It was issued on 20 August 2021 and has applied since 1 March 2022.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting.
Introduction
The aromatic content in jet fuel has become an important quality indicator in jet fuel specifications. This document can determine aromatics in jet fuel The mass fraction or volume fraction. This data is useful for monitoring the process status of jet fuel production equipment, the development of new processes for jet fuel production and injection The quality control of gas and fuel is very important.
Compared with GB/T 11132, this document has fewer factors affecting the analysis results, simple test procedures, short analysis cycles, and is conducive to improvement. The test environment reduces labor intensity and improves the precision of analysis results.
Warning---The personnel using this document should have practical experience in formal laboratory work. The use of this document may involve certain dangerous This document does not point out all possible safety issues. The user is responsible for taking appropriate safety and health measures And ensure compliance with the conditions stipulated by relevant national laws and regulations.
1 Scope
This document describes a method for the determination of total aromatics in jet fuel using a gas chromatograph.
This document is applicable to the determination of total aromatics in jet fuel with a final boiling point below 300°C, and the range of determination of aromatics mass fraction or volume fraction The circumference is 0.5%~35%.
Note: The content of olefins in jet fuel is affected by its production process, and the content is low. The capture materials used in this document are reversible selective adsorption materials.
During the analysis process, the aromatic components are selectively adsorbed. If the sample contains olefins, olefins and aromatics co-elute, the determination result of aromatics will be too large.
This document is not applicable to the determination of the content of monomer hydrocarbon components in each hydrocarbon group.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents constitute the indispensable clauses of this document through normative references in the text. Among them, dated quotations Only the version corresponding to that date is applicable to this document; for undated reference documents, the latest version (including all amendments) is applicable to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Saturated hydrocarbons
A hydrocarbon compound in which carbon and carbon and hydrocarbons are connected by single bonds.
3.2 Aromatics
A hydrocarbon containing one or more benzene ring structures.
3.3 Aromatics trap
A chromatographic column used to selectively retain aromatic components from jet fuel samples. The column captures aromatic components at a specific temperature.
Collection and release have good reversibility and can be used repeatedly.
4 Principle and summary of the method
4.1 The analysis principle of gas chromatography for the determination of jet fuel hydrocarbon components is shown in Figure 1. After the jet fuel sample enters the chromatographic system, it passes through a […]
