The plastics industry is an important pillar industry of the national economy. With the rapid development of my country's plastics industry and the large-scale use of plastic products, plastics Recycling and recycling is an important issue facing the industry and one of the ways for the sustainable development of plastics. 1 Scope

Part 5 of China's national standard series for recycled plastics, covering ABS. It specifies the classification and naming, the requirements, the test methods and the inspection rules. ABS is the engineering plastic of appliance housings, electronics enclosures, automotive interior trim and toys, and it recycles well by the standards of the family: it is tough, it can be reprocessed several times without collapsing, and the parts it comes from are large, clean and identifiable. What limits it is what accompanied it in service. Recycled ABS from electrical equipment carries the brominated flame retardants that were compounded into it, which are now restricted; ABS from automotive interiors carries the paint and the plating of the parts it came from. The classification in this part is therefore as much about provenance as about melt flow, because a grade fit for a visible housing and one fit for a hidden structural part are separated by their contamination rather than by their mechanics.
