Scope
GB/T 39750-2021 is the English-translated version of 光伏发电系统直流电弧保护技术要求.
GB/T 39750-2021 sets the technical requirements for DC arc-fault protection in a photovoltaic system.
It gives the basic provisions, the requirements on the protection equipment, the methods of protection and the tests that verify them, that is what a device has to do to detect a series or parallel arc on the DC side and to disconnect it before a fire starts.
It applies to the DC arc-fault circuit protection of photovoltaic power systems. Inverter and protection device makers, installers and inspectors use it. Issued on 9 March 2021, it has applied since 1 October 2021.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the basic provisions, protection equipment requirements, protection methods and protection tests for DC arc-fault circuit protection for photovoltaic power system.
This Standard applies to DC-side arc-fault protection for photovoltaic power systems integrated with buildings.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 arc-fault detector; AFD
Device used for detecting arc-fault on the DC side of a photovoltaic power system and issuing fault alarm signals.
3.2 arc-fault interrupter; AFI
Device - installed on the DC side of a photovoltaic power system - that receives arc detection signals and implements arc extinguishing functions by means of disconnecting, short-circuiting, or switching.
3.3 4 Basic regulations
The action signal can be continuously issued by the controller or inverter. The arc detection signal channel and the photovoltaic string structure are shown in Appendix A.
When the protection equipment does not receive an action signal within 15 seconds, the protection action shall be triggered, and the requirements are as follows:
a) In a photovoltaic power system operating in grid connected mode, when the inverter is accidentally disconnected or the main grid voltage is lost, the external action signal shall be interrupted. The external action signal can also be manually interrupted by other switches or monitoring devices (such as fire alarm systems).
b) In a photovoltaic power system operating in isolated mode or temporary island state, when the system is shut down, the external action signal shall be interrupted.
4 Basic regulations
4.1 For photovoltaic power systems integrated with buildings, when the maximum system voltage on the DC side is greater than or equal to 80 V, DC arc-fault protection should be provided.
4.2 The DC arc-fault circuit protection equipment for the photovoltaic power system (hereinafter referred to as the protection equipment) shall have an action signal function.
4.3 The arc-fault interrupter in the DC arc-fault circuit protection equipment for photovoltaic power systems integrated with buildings shall comply with the fail-safe principle.
4.4 DC arc-fault circuit protection for photovoltaic power systems integrated with buildings can adopt methods such as disconnecting, short-circuiting, switching, or changing the working state of the inverter. Disconnecting, short-circuiting, and switching methods shall meet the requirements of GB/T 14048.3.
4.5 For parallel arcing protection, if there is an insulation monitoring device, it is not necessary to provide an independent parallel arcing protection equipment to the ground.
4.6 The protection equipment shall indicate the type of arc-fault protection equipment, and the switchgear shall clearly indicate the on and off positions.
5 Requirements for protection equipment
5.1 Protection equipment includes arc-fault detector and arc-fault interrupter. See Appendix B for structures of arc-fault detector and arc-fault interrupter.
5.2 After the protection equipment detects the fault arc and operates, it shall be able to cut off the string where the arc fault occurs and send out a visible alarm signal (local 6.4.1 Changing the inverter working state can achieve arc extinguishing protection through inverter control.
6 Protection methods
6.4.2 Changing the inverter working state is applicable to series arcing protection.
6.5 Applicable scenarios of protection methods
The applicable scenarios of protection methods are shown in Appendix C, and they shall be selected reasonably.
7 Protection test
7.1 Protection test equipment
7.1.1 General requirements
The test system for testing DC arc-fault circuit protection equipment shall include DC power supply, decoupling network, linear impedance network, arc generator, arc protector and other test equipment. The circuit structure diagram is shown in Appendix D. For inverter solutions that require an external DC combiner box, arc tests shall be carried out before and after the combiner box.
7.1.2 DC power supply
7.1.2.1 General requirements
The test system shall have a DC power supply, which can be a constant voltage power supply or a photovoltaic array simulation power supply.
7.1.2.2 Constant voltage power supply
The constant voltage power supply shall include an additional resistor. The constant voltage power supply is adjusted according to the maximum power point, and the requirements are as follows:
a) The constant voltage power supply shall be adjusted according to the open circuit voltage value corresponding to the arc test condition in 7.2;
b) The upper limit of the maximum current shall be set to 1.1 times the maximum working current value corresponding to the arc test condition in 7.2;
c) The total resistance value and relationship corresponding to the arc test condition in 7.2 are shown in Formula (1).
