Scope
GB/T 39700-2020 is the English-translated version of 硼泥处理处置方法.
GB/T 39700-2020 specifies the composition of boron mud, the methods for treating and disposing of it, and the environmental protection requirements that go with them.
Clause 1 states that it applies to the treatment and disposal of the boron sludge produced in the manufacture of borax and boric acid, but not to boron sludge containing radioactive material such as uranium.
Clause 2 cites GB/T 4111, GB 6566, GB/T 8576, GB/T 11968, GB/T 15063, GB/T 23349, GB/T 25993, GB/T 27692, HG/T 2956.3, NY/T 1973 and NY/T 2272. Clause 3 gives a single definition, boron mud, the mud left from producing borax or boric acid from boron magnesia or salt lake boron ore as raw material.
Clause 4 sets out the composition of the two kinds: boron mud produced from boron magnesia contains 25% to 42% magnesium oxide, 15% to 25% silica, 5% to 15% iron oxide, 3% to 4% calcium oxide, 2% to 5% boron oxide and 8% to 60% moisture, while boron mud produced from salt lake boron ore contains 1% to 10% magnesium oxide, 0.5% to 5% silicon dioxide, 0.5% to 5% iron oxide, 2% to 12% calcium oxide, 1% to 6% boron oxide and 8% to 60% moisture.
The draft carries no table of contents and breaks off at the end of clause 4, so the titles of the clauses that give the treatment and disposal methods and the environmental protection requirements are not shown.
The document was drafted in accordance with GB/T 1.1-2020, was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and is under the jurisdiction of the National Standardization Technical Committee for Disposal of Waste Chemicals (SAC/TC294). It was issued on December 14, 2020 and has applied since November 1, 2021.
