1 Scope

China's national standard for flaking mills used in grain and oil processing. It specifies the terms and definitions, the working principle, the classification, the models and basic parameters, the technical requirements, the test methods and the inspection rules. A flaker passes conditioned oilseed between two smooth counter-rotating rolls pressed together with great force, and turns each particle into a thin flake. That flake is the form in which the seed goes to extraction, and its thickness is the single most important variable in the whole plant. Thinner flakes give a shorter path for solvent to reach the oil and for the miscella to leave, so extraction is faster and the residual oil in the meal is lower - and residual oil is money left in the meal. But flakes that are too thin break into fines, and fines blind the extractor's percolation bed so that solvent channels around it instead of through it. The whole operation is a search for that boundary, and the machine has to hold its roll gap precisely enough to sit near it.

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, working principle, classification, model and basic parameters, technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules of the rolling mill. 3 Terms and definitions
