Scope
GB/T 36676-2018 is the English-translated version of 埋地钢质管道应力腐蚀开裂(SCC)外检测方法.
GB/T 36676-2018 sets out the external inspection method for stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of buried steel pipelines. The method runs through data collection, analysis of the factors that make a pipeline sensitive to SCC, prediction of where cracking is likely, excavation and examination, assessment and disposal, and records and reports.
It applies to buried long-distance, gathering and public pipelines, and only to cracking caused by the external environment, not by the conveyed medium. Defined terms include high pH SCC and near-neutral pH SCC.
Annexes cover data collection, SCC sensitivity analysis and assessment, the SCC-sensitive potential range in soil, and methods to measure and predict crack growth rate, including under alternating load. It was issued on 17 September 2018 and has applied since 1 April 2019.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the external detection method for stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of buried steel pipelines, including data collection and SCC sensitive factors. Analysis, SCC position prediction, excavation detection, assessment and disposal, recording and reporting.
This standard is applicable to buried steel pipelines in long-distance pipelines, gathering pipelines and public pipelines. Other buried steel pipelines can be referred to. The relevant provisions of this standard are implemented.
This standard is only applicable to stress corrosion cracking caused by the external environment of buried steel pipelines, and is not suitable for stress corrosion caused by conveying medium. Eclipse cracking.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Stress corrosion cracking
Cracking caused by the combination of tensile stress and corrosive environment of metallic materials.
3.2 High pH SCC
A form of stress corrosion cracking of a buried pipeline caused by an external alkaline electrolyte environment.
Note: The crack appears as cracking along the crystal and has a distinct bifurcation.
3.3 Near-neutral pH SCC
A form of stress corrosion cracking of a buried pipeline caused by an external near-neutral pH electrolyte environment.
Note: Cracks generally appear as transgranular cracking, less bifurcation, corrosion at the crack or pipe surface.
