Scope

GB/T 36494-2018 is the English-translated version of 玻璃纤维无捻粗纱静电性的测定.

GB/T 36494-2018 sets out two ways of measuring how strongly glass fibre roving picks up static electricity.

Method A, the electrostatic adsorption method, feeds the roving into a chopper and lets the cut strands fall onto an inclined stainless steel plate: the mass of strands held there by frictional static, in grams, is the result, and the lower it is the better the antistatic ability.

Method B, the static voltage half-life method, applies a static voltage to the sample and measures, in seconds, how long it takes to decay to half its initial value through grounding.

The standard defines both quantities and gives the principle of each method. It is intended for producers of glass fibre roving and the laboratories that test it. It was issued on 13 July 2018 and has applied since 1 June 2019.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

1 Scope

This standard specifies two methods for determining the electrostatic properties of glass fiber roving.

---Method A. Electrostatic adsorption method;

--- Method B. Static voltage half-life method.

This standard applies to glass fiber roving.

2 Normative references

The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only dated versions apply to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

GB/T 6060.3 Surface roughness comparison specimens Part 3. EDM, throwing (spraying) pellets, sand blasting, grinding, boring, polishing surface.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Electrostatic adsorption mass

The quality of the residual roving that is attracted to the stainless steel plate due to frictional static electricity.

Note: in grams (g).

3.2 Static voltage half-life

The time required for the static voltage on the sample to decay to half the initial value.

Note: in seconds (s).

4 Principle

4.1 Electrostatic adsorption method

The sample is introduced into the chopper for cutting, and the cut yarn segment is freely dropped onto a special inclined surface, and the friction is generated during the cutting process.

Static electricity causes the yarn segments to adhere to this slope, and the adsorbed yarn segments are collected for weighing to determine the electrostatic properties of the sample. Adsorbed yarn segment The lower the quality, the stronger the ability to represent antistatic, and the weaker the antistatic ability.

4.2 Static voltage half-life method

Applying a certain electrostatic voltage to the sample, and measuring the time required for the electrostatic voltage to decay to half of the initial value by ground discharge, Thus, the electrostatic properties of the sample were measured. The shorter the time, the stronger the antistatic ability, and the weaker the antistatic ability.
