Scope

GB/T 36335-2018 is the English-translated version of 信息技术 藏文字符排序规范.

GB/T 36335-2018 sets out how Tibetan characters are sorted in information processing, including Tibetan characters used to transliterate Sanskrit.

It covers the characters encoded in GB/T 13000-2010 and GB 16959-1997, among others, and defines the terms it relies on, such as coded, graphic, spacing and non-spacing characters and Sanskrit transliterating Tibetan characters.

The core of the document is clause 4, the Tibetan character sorting principle. An informative annex gives the one-dimensional expansion of Tibetan syllables and of the Sanskrit transliteration of Tibetan syllables.

Developers of Tibetan information processing systems use it to order Tibetan text in a consistent way. It was issued on 7 June 2018 and has applied since 1 January 2019.
