GB/T 36303-2018 is the English-translated version of 印刷数字水印.
GB/T 36303-2018 deals with printed digital watermarks, the protection information embedded by a computer algorithm in a file and carried into printed matter by press or printer output.
It gives the terms and definitions, the classification of printed digital watermarks, their requirements, the test methods and the inspection rules.
The definitions cover the printed watermark itself, visible and invisible watermarks, both characterised under a D65 light source by a visibility or invisibility of at least 99%, robustness against signal processing such as noise, filtering, resampling, cropping and lossy compression, and watermark capacity.
The standard applies to anti-counterfeiting products and related products that use printed digital watermarking, which can be read with optical detectors, smartphone software or scanners. It was issued on 7 June 2018 and has applied since 1 October 2018.

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classifications, requirements, test methods and inspection rules for printed digital watermarks.
This standard applies to anti-counterfeiting products and related products using printed digital watermarking technology.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 17004-1997 apply to this document.
3.1 Digital watermark
A protection information embedded in a carrier file using a computer algorithm.
3.2 Printed digital watermark
A special digital watermark that can be used for press printing output and printer printout.
Note: Digital watermarks embedded in printed matter can be detected by special tools such as digital watermark optical detector, digital watermark smartphone software and scanning. The instrument is equipped with a computer software system and the like.
3.3 Visible digital watermark
In the D65 light source environment, the visual visibility is >=99%

3.5 Robustness
After undergoing a variety of unintentional or intentional signal processing, the digital watermark still maintains partial integrity and can be read with accuracy.
Note: Possible signal processing includes channel noise, filtering, digital/analog and analog-to-digital conversion, resampling, shearing, displacement, scale variation, and lossy compression coding. Code and so on.

The amount of watermark information that the carrier can embed without deformation.
