GB/T 36060-2018 is the Chinese standard for process control and testing when water-based adhesives are used to make hardcover books. It covers the steps where the adhesive is applied: book block lining, pasting the endpapers down on the case, back gluing of the book block and case edging.
It sets requirements for raw materials, including limits on phthalates and harmful substances in the adhesive by reference to GB 24613 and CY/T 87, for the production environment and for the quality of finished books, with the matching test methods for non-volatile content and pH, and rules for storage and transport.
Hardcover requirements follow GB/T 30325-2013. Book printers, binders and adhesive suppliers use it. It was issued on 15 March 2018 and has applied since 1 October 2018.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions for the use of water-based adhesives in the processing of hardcover books, raw material requirements, production environment requirements, and quality Quantity requirements and test methods, storage and transportation of finished products.
This standard is applicable to the use of water-based adhesives in hardcover book processing for book block adhesive lining, lining lining, back brushing, book case edging, and finished products. Quality requirements and other process control.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Water-based adhesive
Polymers with water as the solvent or dispersion medium are used as the binders for the main binders.
Note: Rewrite GB/T 27934.3-2011, definition 3.1.
3.2 Liner papers fully pasted down on case/cover
The process of attaching the liner to the book shell and cover.
3.3 Back gluing
The process of applying the adhesive for the first time at the back of the blank book block.
