GB/T 35974.1-2018 is the first part of the Chinese national series on plastics and plastic-lined pressure vessels and gives their general requirements. It defines the terms used across the series and sets the requirements for materials, design, fabrication, inspection and testing.

It applies to plastic vessels in PVC-U, PVC-C, PE, PP and ABS with a design pressure of 0 MPa to 0.25 MPa and a nominal diameter of up to 4 m, and to lined vessels in PVC-U, PVC-C, PE, PTFE, ETFE and PVDF from 0.1 MPa to 2.5 MPa.

It excludes mobile vessels and plastic vessels holding flammable, explosive or toxic gases or moderately toxic liquids. Design covers service life, design temperature, thickness and a reserve for photoaging, with an annex on photoaging life. It was issued on 6 February 2018 and has applied since 1 September 2018.
