Scope
GB/T 33779.1-2017 is the English-translated version of 光纤特性测试导则 第1部分:衰减均匀性.
GB/T 33779.1-2017 is Part 1 of GB/T 33779 and tells laboratories how to measure the attenuation uniformity of an optical fibre, that is, how the attenuation coefficient varies along its length.
It gives the terms and definitions, the abbreviations, the apparatus, the samples and their preparation, the procedure, the calculation and the requirements on the results.
Clause 3 defines attenuation uniformity, the optical time domain reflectometer trace, and bi-directional backscatter technology, which combines backscatter measurements made from both ends of the fibre so that the attenuation of any section can be obtained accurately.
The abbreviations are the sliding window, the generalized sliding window and the OTDR. It applies to long, non-segmented fibre, cites GB/T 15972.40 and GB/T 33779.2, was issued on 31 May 2017 and has applied since 1 December 2017.

Foreword
GB/T 33779 "Fiber Optic Properties Test Guide" is expected to be divided into the following sections.
- Part 1. attenuation uniformity;
Part 2. OTDR backscatter curve analysis;
Part 3. Effective area (Aeff).
This part is part 1 of GB/T 33779.
This part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 33779 specifies the terms and definitions of fiber attenuation uniformity testing, abbreviations, devices, samples and sample preparation, Procedures, calculations and results.
This part is suitable for non-segmentation, large length of fiber attenuation attenuation uniformity measurement.
2 Normative reference documents
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the dated edition applies to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all modifications) applies to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
GB/T 15972.40 The definitions and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Attenuation uniformity
Characterize the attenuation coefficient along the fiber or cable length variation characteristics. The attenuation uniformity characteristics can sometimes be used to attenuate nonuniformity (attenuation non-uniformity).
3.2 Optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) curve
The curve of the backward scattered light power varies with the length of the fiber, or the curve obtained from the data derived from the curve.
3.3 Bi-directional backscatter technology
A combination of backscattering measurements at both ends of the fiber. In the fiber at both ends of a backscattering test, the two scattering curve can be combined To obtain an accurate attenuation of any segment in the fiber or cable.
4 Abbreviations
The following abbreviations apply to this document.
SW Sliding Window (Sliding Window)
GSW generalized sliding window (Generalized Sliding Window)
OTDR Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer)
