Scope
GB/T 3251-2023 is the English-translated version of 铝及铝合金产品压缩试验方法.
GB/T 3251-2023 is the Chinese method for measuring how aluminium and aluminium alloy products behave under compression. A unidirectional force is applied along the axis of the specimen until a specified deformation, a specified load or the maximum force is reached.
The document covers the test conditions, with a test temperature of 10 °C to 35 °C, the testing machine, backing plate and extensometer, the specimen types and their preparation, the test procedure and the test report.
The properties obtained are actual compressive force of a rectangular specimen, specified non-proportional compressive strength, compressive strength, modulus of elasticity in compression, upper compressive yield force, compressibility, energy absorption and compressive deformation at a specified force.
It applies to plate, tube, bar, profile and forgings. It replaces GB/T 3251-2006, was issued on 6 August 2023 and has applied since 1 March 2024.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 3251-2006 "Compression Test Methods for Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Pipes". Compared with GB/T 3251-2006, except for the In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Added test conditions (see Chapter 5);
b) Added testing machine requirements (see 6.1);
c) Added backing plate and extensometer (see 6.2 and 6.3);
d) The sample type and sample preparation have been changed (see 7.1, 7.2, Chapter 4 of the 2006 edition);
e) Added test preparation (see Chapter 8);
f) The test procedures have been changed (see Chapter 9, Chapter 5 of the 2006 edition);
g) Added the actual compression force of the rectangular specimen in the test results, specified non-proportional compressive strength, compressive strength, compressive elastic modulus, upper compression Yield force, compression ratio, energy absorption, compression deformation of specified force value (see 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, 10.9);
h) Added test report (see Chapter 11).
1 Scope
This document describes compression testing methods for aluminum and aluminum alloy products.
This document is applicable to the determination of the compression properties of aluminum and aluminum alloy products such as plates, pipes, rods, profiles, and forgings.

4 Method overview
Apply a unidirectional compressive force to the specimen in the axial direction. When the specimen is compressed to the specified deformation amount or reaches the specified load or the maximum force value occurs, the test specimen is measured.
Actual compressive force, specified non-proportional compressive strength, compressive strength, compressive elastic modulus, upper compressive yield force, compressibility, energy absorption of the rectangular specimen Compression performance indicators such as compression deformation amount and specified force value are used to evaluate the material's ability to resist compression deformation.
5 Test conditions
The test temperature is 10°C~35°C.
6 Instruments and Equipment
6.1 Testing machine
6.1.1 The force measuring system of the testing machine is calibrated in the compression direction in accordance with JJG 139, JJG 475 or JJG 1063. The accuracy of the force measuring system of the testing machine is Should reach or better than level 1.
6.1.2 The maximum load required for the test should be within the range of 10% to 90% of the maximum load of the testing machine.
