GB/T 31371-2015 sets the disassembly and treatment requirements for one class of waste electrical and electronic product, the desktop microcomputer.

Clause 1 states that the standard specifies the general requirements for the dismantling of waste desktop microcomputers, the premises and equipment requirements, the procedures and requirements, the pollution control and the safety and health requirements, and the documentation and retention requirements, and that it applies to the dismantling of waste desktop microcomputers.

Clause 3 adopts the definitions of GB/T 20861 and adds one of its own, the desktop microcomputer, defined as a fixed table microcomputer specially suited to office or home use, with a note distinguishing it from portable microcomputers for mobile computing, from servers and from computers designed for industrial control applications.

The foreword warns that some of the content of the document may involve patents and that the issuing body does not take responsibility for identifying them.
