Scope
GB/T 31188-2014 is the English-translated version of 化学清洗废液处理技术规范.
GB/T 31188-2014 specifies the terms and definitions, the classification, the on-site pretreatment requirements, the deep treatment technology requirements and the discharge requirements for chemical cleaning waste liquid.
Clause 1 states that it applies to the methods for treating the waste liquid generated on site by the chemical cleaning of industrial equipment and of products.
Clause 3 defines chemical cleaning waste liquid as the waste solution containing chemical substances and soil produced during cleaning with chemicals, and then defines alkaline washing waste liquid, pickling waste liquid, passivation waste liquid, and other waste liquid, the last covering the water-washing and treatment residues generated before and after the alkaline and acid stages.
Clause 4 classifies chemical cleaning waste liquid into alkaline washing waste, pickling waste, passivation waste and other waste, matching those definitions.
Clause 5 carries the on-site pretreatment requirements and opens with general provisions, the first of which deals with alkali treatment, requiring an alkali solution of suitable concentration to be prepared first and added slowly.
Clause 2 cites HJ 2002-2010 on electroplating wastewater treatment engineering. The standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association and is administered by the National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Waste Chemicals Disposal (SAC/TC 294). It was issued on 3 September 2014 and has applied since 1 May 2015.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Chemical cleaning waste
Using chemical substances contained in waste chemicals and dirt cleaning solution generated in the process.
3.2 Caustic waste
Alkaline cleaner waste liquid generated during the cleaning process.
3.3 Pickle liquor
Acidic cleaners use waste produced during the cleaning process.
3.4 Passivation waste
