Scope

GB/T 27998-2011 is the English-translated version of 平衡式起重机.

GB/T 27998-2011 covers the balance crane, setting the types and basic parameters, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the requirements for marking, packaging, transport and storage.

Clause 1 states that the standard applies to balance cranes whose main structural feature is a parallelogram balance bar system, and that balance cranes with another working area, taken in the vertical section, may use it as a reference.

Clause 3 defines the forces used in the standard, namely the operating force in the diametrical direction, applied perpendicular to the centreline of the slewing column to move the load within the working space, its maximum value, the maximum unbalance force in the diametrical direction, taken as the greatest additional radial force needed to hold the hook still at a point in any vertical section of the working space, and the tangential operating force, applied perpendicular to the radius of gyration in any horizontal section to move the load.

The normative references include the crane design rules of GB/T 3811, the crane test code and procedures of GB/T 5905-2011, the recommended weld grooves of GB/T 985.1, the carbon steel electrodes of GB/T 5117, the radiographic testing of fusion welded metal joints of GB/T 3323-2005, the rust grades of steel surfaces before painting of GB/T 8923-1988 and the cross-cut test for paints and varnishes of GB/T 9286-1998, while packaging refers to GB/T 13384 and components to the hand hoist hook standard JB/T 4207.1.

The standard was proposed by the China Machinery Industry Federation, is administered by the national crane standardization technical committee, SAC/TC227, and was drafted by an electrical machinery company in Yangquan with lifting machinery makers in Jiangsu and Jiaozuo. It was issued on 30 December 2011 and has applied since 1 July 2012.
