Scope
GB/T 26884-2011 is the English-translated version of 粮油机械 浸出器.
China's national standard for solvent extractors used in oilseed processing. It specifies the terms and definitions, the model designation and basic parameters, the technical requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage of extractors, and it applies to the continuous extractors used in oil extraction plants. Solvent extraction is how the overwhelming majority of the world's vegetable oil is actually recovered, because pressing alone leaves several per cent of the oil behind and extraction leaves under one. The extractor is the vessel where it happens: prepared flakes or pressed cake move slowly through it while solvent, normally hexane, percolates counter-currently through the bed - the freshest solvent meeting the most nearly exhausted material and the strongest miscella leaving at the feed end. The counter-current arrangement is what makes the process efficient in solvent, and holding it stable is the whole design problem, since the bed has to be permeable enough to drain and deep enough to hold the material for the residence time required. What makes the machine demanding is not the extraction but the solvent. Hexane is highly flammable, its vapour is heavier than air, and the extractor is a large vessel full of it operating continuously next to rotating machinery: the plant is a hazardous area, the vessel has to be sealed against vapour escape while material flows in and out continuously, and every drive, bearing and instrument penetrating it is a potential leak and ignition source. The standard specifies the extraction performance and residual oil, the solvent ratio and drainage, the sealing, the construction and materials, the drives, the explosion protection and the safety and monitoring provisions. Issued on 29 September 2011 and in force since 1 December 2011.
