1 Scope

China's national standard for compound feed for grouper. It is Part 6 of GB/T 22919 and defines the terms and definitions, gives the product classification and specifies the technical requirements, the inspection rules, the labelling, packaging, transport and storage. Grouper sits at the opposite end of the aquaculture spectrum from tilapia. It is a marine carnivore, it commands a high price, and it is farmed in cages and in recirculating systems where the feed cost dominates the economics and where uneaten feed pollutes the water the fish is living in. The species has a high protein requirement - substantially higher than any freshwater omnivore - and it needs that protein in a form it can use: a marine carnivore has a limited capacity to digest carbohydrate and to synthesise the long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids that other fish make for themselves, so both the amino acid profile and the fatty acid composition are requirements rather than optimisations. The feed therefore rests on fishmeal and fish oil to a degree that a tilapia feed does not, and every attempt to substitute them is bounded by those two constraints. So the standard sets the crude protein and crude lipid by growth stage, the essential amino acids, the essential fatty acids including the long-chain forms, the ash and fibre ceilings, the moisture, and the pellet water stability, which for a species that feeds slowly and selectively determines both how much feed is eaten and how much of it goes into the water. The safety limits on mycotoxins, heavy metals and prohibited substances apply as they do throughout the series. Issued on 15 March 2024 and in force since 1 October 2024, it replaces GB/T 22919.6-2008.

This document defines the terms and definitions of grouper feed, gives product classification, and stipulates technical requirements, inspection rules, labeling, Packaging, transportation, storage and shelf life, and the corresponding sampling and testing methods are described. This document applies to the production and use of grouper feed.
