Scope
GB/T 22919.9-2024 is the English-translated version of 水产配合饲料 第9部分:大口黑鲈配合饲料.
China's national standard for compound feed for largemouth bass. It is Part 9 of GB/T 22919 and defines the terms and definitions, gives the product classification and specifies the technical requirements, the inspection rules, the labelling, packaging, transport and storage. Largemouth bass is a freshwater carnivore and it presents the hardest feed problem of the species in this series. Traditionally it was farmed on trash fish - low-value wild-caught fish fed whole - which is wasteful, unreliable in supply, a route for disease, and increasingly unacceptable. Converting the industry to compound feed is what this standard supports, and the obstacle is the fish itself. It is a strict carnivore with a high protein requirement and a very limited ability to use carbohydrate: fed a diet with the starch content of an ordinary fish feed it develops glycogen accumulation in the liver, and hepatic damage is the characteristic disorder of intensively farmed bass. It is also a reluctant feeder on artificial diets and has to be weaned onto them, so palatability and pellet behaviour are not secondary. The standard accordingly sets a high crude protein by growth stage, a carbohydrate ceiling rather than merely a fibre one, the essential amino acids, the lipid content and the essential fatty acids, the moisture and ash, and the pellet size, floating or sinking behaviour and water stability appropriate to a fish that takes food from the water column by sight. The safety limits apply as elsewhere in the series. Issued on 15 March 2024 and in force since 1 October 2024.

This document provides the product classification of largemouth bass feed, and specifies the technical requirements, inspection rules, labeling, packaging, transportation, storage and Shelf life, and describes the corresponding sampling and testing methods. This document applies to the production and use of compound feeds for largemouth bass.
